Sedation DentistryFor most people, a dental visit is anything but a relaxing experience. Even the thought of a dental appointment makes many people feel anxious or nervous. If this is the case with you, Dr. Camille Adli can use sedation dentistry to help you relax and enjoy your visit.

Sedation Dentistry Options

There are various levels of sedation that can help calm you before your dental procedures. Dr. Adli uses nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous oxide

In this first level of sedation, a colorless, odorless gas (also known as laughing gas) is administered to you through a small mask. As you breathe in nitrous oxide, you will feel it calm you. You will be awake and able to hear and respond to Dr. Adli, but the nervous edge you would normally feel at a dental appointment will be gone.

The effects of nitrous oxide are easy to reverse. At the end of your appointment, you will breathe in pure oxygen to clear the effects so you can drive home or back to work.

Oral Conscious Sedation

The next level of sedation offered by Dr. Adli is oral conscious sedation—and she offers it at no extra charge to you. A commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medication is given to you in pill form. You will take it an hour before your appointment. It will relax you and make you sleepy. During your dental procedure, your vital signs will be monitored.

Your relaxed state will help you receive the dental treatment you need. And because you are so relaxed, Dr. Adli can get a lot of work done. Some people choose this treatment option because they need extensive work and want to accomplish as much as possible in the appointment. After your dental procedure, you will still be drowsy and unable to drive, so you need to arrange for someone to take you to and from your appointment.
